Dogs require a ticket and also need to be on a leash AND wear a muzzle.
Dogs may only be taken on public transport under certain conditions. Dogs of any size must generally be on a leash and wear a muzzle. Small, harmless animals may be transported free of charge (see section 40 of the Conditions of Carriage for Public Transport Services (Kraftfahrlinien-Beförderungsbedingungen, Kfl-BefBed) The provisions of section 38 and 39 Kfl-BefBed apply to larger dogs. They require day, weekly, monthly and transferable annual tickets. These tickets enable dogs to be taken on any public transport service in the region.
Dogs may be taken on public transport free of charge and without the need for a leash and muzzle in the following cases:
- If the dog is carried in a closed container (caution: it is not allowed to carry the dog in an open handbag)
- Service dogs for people with a disability
- Guide and assistance dogs
