Version 1.2 dated 28.04.2025
Video surveillance (CCTV)
Our buses are equipped with CCTV to protect vehicles and passengers from vandalism and criminal behaviour. We take protecting this data and your privacy very seriously. Here you can find out more about video surveillance and how we handle the data.
-
What is the aim and legal basis of the video surveillance?
The legal basis is point f of Art. 6(1) of the GDPR. CCTV footage is processed around the clock every day of the year for the following purposes:
- Ensuring safety and company operations
- Company property (buses, equipment, facilities and funds)
- Protecting and increasing the safety of passengers and employees
- Preventing, containing and investigating unlawful and prosecutable conduct
-
Which areas are covered by CCTV surveillance?
The entire interior of our vehicles is under CCTV surveillance as standard.
-
How are persons made aware that CCTV is in operation?
To ensure that those affected are aware that CCTV in operation, appropriate signage is displayed on the outside of the doors and inside the vehicles.
-
What do I need to know about data processing?
The processing of personal data is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG). CCTV is in operation around the clock. CCTV captures and stores image data of the persons concerned (appearance, behaviour) as well as the location and time of the recorded footage.
Should it become necessary to extract data, the corresponding video sequence will be reduced to only what is absolutely necessary.
The place of data processing is the respective branch of the respective transport company – see question “Who is responsible for the video footage and can access the data?”
It is also indicated there how long the data will be stored.
-
Who is allowed access to this data and when?
Data can only be analysed by the data controller at the respective company listed (see question “Who is responsible for the video footage and who can access the data?”) in objectively justified cases and only upon request and in the presence of an official authority. If necessary, the required video sequences will be forwarded to domestic or foreign criminal or civil courts, law enforcement authorities or other official institutions with a right of access.
-
What rights do the persons affected by the CCTV recording have?
Data subjects generally have the right to information, rectification, erasure and objection in accordance with the GDPR. A data controller is available at each of the companies listed in order to exercise these rights (see question “Who is responsible for the video footage and can access the data?”).
The data subject also has the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian data protection authority (dsb@dsb.gv.at) if there is a suspicion that the processing of the data violates data protection law or that privacy claims have been violated in any way. -
Who is responsible for the video footage and can access the data?
The companies listed below have access to the recorded data and are also responsible for it. There is a data controller at each of these companies who has exclusive access to the CCTV footage. Said controller also guarantees that data is handled properly in accordance with the GDPR:
